Port information & tips for Linz
Linz, the Upper Austrian state capital on the Danube, merges historic Baroque architecture with forward-looking media art in a fascinating way. The city impresses with its picturesque location in the Danube Valley and offers a unique, innovative flair thanks to its UNESCO designation as a City of Media Arts. Outstanding highlights in the immediate vicinity include the futuristic Ars Electronica Center, the striking Lentos Kunstmuseum directly on the riverbank, and the magnificent Hauptplatz with the Baroque Trinity Column. Cruise ships dock at the central Linz Donaulände, from where the historic old town and the bustling Landstraße shopping street are just a few minutes' walk away, while the expansive Donaupark right outside the cabin door simultaneously invites you to take relaxing strolls.
The port of Linz on the Danube impresses with its central location in Upper Austria and first-class connections for travelers from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. The ship docking points at the Donaulände are located in direct proximity to the historic old town and can be reached comfortably.
Car
Via the Westautobahn A1 and the Mühlkreis Autobahn A7, the route leads directly into the city center of Linz to the docking points in the area of the Donaupark. For the duration of your cruise, guarded long-term parking lots as well as special Park-and-Cruise services are available on the outskirts of the city or at the airport, which include a shuttle transfer directly to the ship.
Train
Linz Hauptbahnhof is a central hub of the Westbahn and is served several times an hour by Railjet and ICE trains from the directions of Vienna, Salzburg, and Munich. Continuing your journey to the port is particularly uncomplicated thanks to tram lines 1, 2, 3, and 4 to the Hauptplatz; additionally, taxis are available at the station forecourt at any time for a short, ten-minute ride to the docking point.
Airplane
Linz Airport (LNZ) offers good connections to international hubs and is located about 15 kilometers from the port. In addition to the regular shuttle bus 601 to the Hauptbahnhof, private transfer services and taxis enable a stress-free arrival in about 20 minutes directly to your ship.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that your travel documents usually include a fixed time slot for check-in, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time – depending on the cruise line and destination area – is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the trip: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always follow the current announcements and notices on board, as docking and departure times may change at short notice.
