Port information & tips for Soufrière
Soufrière is the picturesque jewel on the southwest coast of St. Lucia and is considered one of the most spectacular arrival points in the Caribbean. The charming town impresses with its dramatic backdrop between the majestic Pitons and offers an incomparable atmosphere thanks to its colorful colonial houses and lush tropical vegetation. Absolute highlights in the immediate vicinity include the famous sulfur springs of Sulphur Springs, the Diamond Falls Botanical Gardens, and the imposing peaks of Gros Piton and Petit Piton. Since cruise ships usually lie at anchor in the bay, guests reach the center comfortably by tender boat at the Soufrière Jetty. This central landing point is located directly in the town center, meaning markets and local attractions are only a few minutes' walk away.
Soufrière on St. Lucia typically serves as a picturesque port of call for cruise ships, where guests are brought ashore by tender boats to explore the stunning nature and the charming town. Embarkation for the start or end of a cruise usually does not take place here, as Soufrière is not a home port. However, guests from the DACH region can easily reach the island of St. Lucia by plane to visit this enchanting region.
Airplane
Hewanorra International Airport (UVF) in the south of the island is the primary arrival point for long-haul flights to St. Lucia. It is located approximately 29 to 46 kilometers from Soufrière. Alternatively, George F.L. Charles Airport (SLU) in Castries, around 43 kilometers north of Soufrière, offers connections to neighboring Caribbean islands. For travel from the DACH region, a direct flight or a connection with a stopover to UVF is recommended to start your Caribbean vacation relaxed.
Transfer & Shuttle
From Hewanorra International Airport (UVF), you can reach Soufrière quickly thanks to a variety of transfer options. A journey by taxi or a pre-booked shuttle takes about 45 minutes to one hour, depending on traffic. Numerous local providers are available to take you directly and comfortably to your accommodation or a meeting point in Soufrière. The scenic coastal roads already offer first breathtaking views of the tropical landscape.
Pre-Cruise Hotel & Island Exploration
For a relaxed arrival and to enjoy the beauty of St. Lucia to the fullest, a pre-cruise overnight stay in the Soufrière region or near Hewanorra International Airport (UVF) is recommended. Soufrière itself offers a selection of charming accommodations with spectacular views of the iconic Pitons. This way, you start your island stay refreshed and have enough time to explore the sights around Soufrière before your cruise ship docks in the port or you continue your journey.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the journey: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.
