Port information & tips for Rodney Bay
Rodney Bay in the north of St. Lucia is considered one of the most exclusive anchorages in the Caribbean and delights with a harmonious blend of paradisiacal nature and a lively marina atmosphere. The wide bay offers crystal-clear water and direct access to first-class beaches as well as the pulsating yacht harbor. Highlights in the immediate vicinity include the beautiful Reduit Beach and the historic Pigeon Island National Park with its breathtaking viewpoints. Smaller luxury ships and sailing cruisers dock directly at the IGY Rodney Bay Marina or use the convenient tender service to the pier. Thanks to the central location, travelers can reach the boutiques, restaurants, and the colorful hustle and bustle of the tourist center of Rodney Bay within a few minutes' walk.
Rodney Bay on St. Lucia is a popular port of call for luxury boutique and sailing cruises and is not a base for the embarkation or disembarkation of passengers. Guests from the DACH region usually travel to St. Lucia by plane to begin their cruise (often from Castries) or to explore the island before or after a cruise.
Airplane
Travel to St. Lucia is primarily via Hewanorra International Airport (UVF) in the south of the island, which receives international flights, including those with stopovers, from the DACH region. From there, it is approximately 65 kilometers or about a 1.5- to 2-hour drive to Rodney Bay. For travelers from neighboring Caribbean islands, George F. L. Charles Airport (SLU) near the capital, Castries, is a convenient option. This regional airport is located only about 3 kilometers from Rodney Bay and allows for a quick onward journey in about 17 to 30 minutes.
Transfer & Local Transport
From Hewanorra International Airport (UVF), you can comfortably reach Rodney Bay by taxi or shuttle. Taxis cost about 75 to 95 US dollars for up to three people, while shuttles are available for 20 to 25 US dollars per person for groups of four or more. The scenic drive along the John Compton Highway (A1) and the Castries-Gros Islet Highway (A3) offers initial impressions of the island. In Rodney Bay itself, taxis are available for longer distances and minibuses for an authentic local experience.
Pre-Cruise Hotel & Stay
Given the long journey from the DACH region, an overnight stay in a pre-cruise hotel in Rodney Bay or the surrounding area is recommended. This allows for a relaxed start to your vacation and provides the opportunity to explore the lively Rodney Bay Village with its restaurants, bars, and shopping facilities, as well as the beautiful Reduit Beach. Many hotels also offer flexible parking options if you are considering a rental car to explore the island. Free parking can be found, among other places, in the large shopping centers of Rodney Bay.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will generally receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the trip: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
