St. George’s, the picturesque capital of Grenada, is considered one of the most beautiful port cities in the Caribbean and welcomes visitors with a colorful panorama of colonial houses and lush tropical greenery. The horseshoe-shaped Carenage bay captivates with its authentic maritime flair, while the scent of nutmeg and cinnamon makes the "Spice Isle" immediately palpable. Cultural highlights in the immediate vicinity include the historic Fort George with its wide panoramic view over the coast, as well as the lively Market Square and the iconic Sendall Tunnel. Cruise ships dock at the modern Melville Street Cruise Terminal, which, thanks to its central location, offers direct access to the Esplanade Mall and the charming city center, making the most important sights easily accessible on foot.
The port of St. George’s on Grenada is one of the most picturesque ports of call in the Caribbean and is excellently accessible for guests from the DACH region. Modern cruise ships usually dock at the centrally located Melville Street Cruise Terminal, which is directly connected to the capital, while smaller expedition ships occasionally moor in the charming inner harbor basin, the Carenage.
Airplane
Maurice Bishop International Airport (GND) is located only about eight kilometers south of the capital and is served by Condor with direct flights from Frankfurt. In addition, travelers from Vienna or Zurich can easily reach the Spice Isle via connections through London Heathrow or via hubs in the USA such as Miami or New York.
Transfer & Taxi
The drive from the airport to the Melville Street Cruise Terminal takes only 15 to 20 minutes thanks to the well-developed Maurice Bishop Highway. Numerous licensed taxis with fixed rates are available on site, and most cruise lines offer organized shuttle transfers, ensuring a smooth transition from the plane directly to check-in at the ship.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the time difference and the long flight duration, we recommend arriving at least one day before embarkation. Many high-quality hotels and resorts in the Grand Anse Beach region are just a short taxi ride from the port and, thanks to their first-class location, allow for a particularly relaxed start to your Caribbean vacation.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will generally receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time – depending on the cruise line and destination – is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The following also applies during the journey: For shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
