Santo Domingo is the vibrant capital of the Dominican Republic and fascinates as the oldest city established by Europeans in America with its deep-rooted history. Cruise ships use the modern Don Diego Terminal or the Sans Souci Terminal, with the Don Diego Terminal being only a few minutes' walk from the historical city center thanks to its first-class location.

Airplane
Las Américas International Airport (SDQ) is the closest and primary arrival point for cruise passengers traveling to Santo Domingo. It is located about 30 kilometers east of the city center and the cruise port, with a travel time of around 30 to 35 minutes. Although direct flight connections from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland often lead through other Caribbean or North American hubs, SDQ is a major airport with connections to numerous international destinations.
Transfer & Shuttle
From Las Américas Airport (SDQ), you can easily reach the cruise terminal via a pre-booked private transfer or taxi. Private transfer services offer a stress-free door-to-door ride in about 35 minutes and cost approximately 55 US dollars per person. Many cruise lines also organize their own shuttle services that take you directly from the airport to the ship. Local taxi companies are also available to transport you quickly and comfortably to your destination.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the long journey from the DACH region, it is recommended to arrive in Santo Domingo at least one day before embarkation to start your cruise relaxed. Hotels near the charming Zona Colonial provide an ideal base, as this historic district is within walking distance of the Don Diego Terminal and only a short taxi ride from the Sans Souci Terminal. This allows you to explore the city's cultural highlights before your cruise and calmly buffer any potential flight delays.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the trip: For shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
