The Bay of Samaná is a true natural jewel in the northeast of the Dominican Republic and impresses with its pristine, tropical splendor. Visitors experience an authentic Caribbean atmosphere with green hills, coconut palms, and the colorful houses of Santa Bárbara de Samaná. Absolute highlights include the dreamlike island of Cayo Levantado, the impressive Los Haitises National Park, and the striking "Bridge to Nowhere" (Puente de Samaná). Since it is a tender port, guests reach the central Samaná Cruise Pier comfortably by tender boat. This landing point is located directly on the lively Malecón, meaning the city center and local markets are reachable in just a few steps thanks to the prime location.
Samaná Bay is an idyllic destination in the Dominican Republic and is conveniently reached thanks to well-developed highways and strategically located airports. Since ships here often anchor in the bay, arrival at the terminal in Santa Bárbara de Samaná usually takes place comfortably by tender boat directly to the central pier on the waterfront promenade.
Airplane
Samaná El Catey International Airport (AZS) is located only 45 kilometers from the port and allows for a short transfer time of around 45 to 60 minutes. For a larger selection of international connections from the DACH region, Las Américas International Airport (SDQ) in Santo Domingo is also an option, which is about 160 kilometers away and can be reached in approximately two hours via a modern highway.
Transfer & Shuttle
From the airports, guests can most easily reach the pier with pre-booked private transfers or taxis. The journey from Santo Domingo takes you via the well-developed Autopista Juan Pablo II (Route 7), which efficiently connects the Samaná Peninsula with the capital while providing initial impressions of the tropical landscape.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the long flight time from Europe and to avoid time pressure, we recommend arriving at least one day before embarkation. In Santa Bárbara de Samaná and nearby Las Terrenas, you will find charming accommodations that often coordinate a direct shuttle service to the port, ensuring a relaxed start to your cruise.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your arrival at the port and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the journey: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements as well as the postings on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
