The drive from the airport takes about 2 to 2.5 hours by rental car, or around 2 hours 50 minutes. Alternatively, Ontario Northland offers a bus service from Thunder Bay to Terrace Bay several times a week, which takes about 2 hours 53 minutes. Car

Terrace Bay is directly accessible via the Trans-Canada Highway 17, allowing for a convenient arrival by private vehicle or rental car. From Thunder Bay to the west, the drive takes about two hours, while the route from Sault Ste. Marie to the southeast takes approximately five hours. Parking is available at the Tourist Information Centre and at Terrace Bay Beach, both of which are suitable for larger vehicles and RVs. Additionally, Simcoe Plaza in the town center offers further parking spaces.

Pre-Cruise Hotel

Due to the long journey from the DACH region and the transfer times from Thunder Bay Airport, staying overnight the day before embarkation is highly recommended. This allows for a relaxed start to your cruise experience. Hotels such as the Drifters Motel, Red Dog Inn, or Norwood Motel are available directly in Terrace Bay. For a wider selection of accommodations and restaurants, a pre-cruise stay in Thunder Bay is also an option, from where you can comfortably travel to Terrace Bay on the day of embarkation.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that your travel documents usually include a fixed time slot for check-in, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the latest announcements and the notices on board, as docking and departure times may change at short notice.
