Plane to the Starting Point
From the DACH region, you can reach the Canadian metropolises of Calgary (YYC) or Toronto (YYZ) comfortably with direct flights or connecting connections. These cities serve as hubs for onward travel to the Arctic and offer a comfortable first stage of your journey. For a relaxed arrival, an overnight stay in Calgary or Toronto is recommended due to the long flight times.
Charter Flight & Transfer to the Ship
Specially organized charter flights depart from Calgary or Toronto for Resolute (Resolute Bay) in Nunavut, the central departure port for expeditions to the Canadian Arctic and Axel Heiberg Island. The flight to Resolute is an integral part of the expedition trip and takes you deep into Canada's High North. Upon arrival in Resolute, the transfer to the expedition ship takes place, often by Zodiac or even helicopter depending on the ship's position and weather conditions, for an incomparable Arctic experience.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the extensive travel and the specific flight schedules for the charter flights to the expedition ship, an overnight stay in a pre-cruise hotel in the gateway city (such as Calgary or Toronto) is strongly recommended and often already included in the travel package. This allows you a stress-free start to your Arctic adventure and sufficient time for further transfer preparations.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the shipping company and destination area - is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The following also applies during the trip: For shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
