Buses from the Arriva Cymru company run regularly throughout the region and connect the port area directly with the central bus station. Thanks to this dense network, you can also easily reach other excursion destinations such as Caernarfon Castle while enjoying an authentic journey through the Welsh landscape.

The impressive Penrhyn Castle is located just a short, ten-minute taxi ride from the port and, as a magnificent neo-Norman castle, offers a fascinating journey through time into British history. This extensive estate is perfectly suited for cruise guests, as it features opulently furnished living rooms, a first-class art collection, and spacious gardens with panoramic views of the Menai Strait. Thanks to the well-developed infrastructure, including a charming tea room and a visitor center, you can enjoy a comfortable stay in a historical atmosphere. It is best to visit the castle right when it opens in the morning to make the most of the tranquility of the gardens, and return to the port quite relaxed about two hours before departure.
The way back to Garth Pier or Port Penrhyn is very pleasant and straightforward thanks to the compact city structure. Plan a small time buffer for the transfer back to the ship to enjoy the view of the Menai Strait in a relaxed manner.
Taxi
You can easily find taxis in the city center at the central ranks at Bangor station as well as near the High Street by the Deiniol Shopping Centre. The drivers will take you directly to Garth Pier or the port entrance of Port Penrhyn in just a few minutes and are well acquainted with the departure times of the cruise ships.
Shuttle bus and local transport
Many cruise lines provide free shuttle buses that run regularly between the city center and the port area. In addition, local buses operate from the stop at the striking Clock Tower, which will transport you reliably and easily back to the vicinity of the piers.
On foot
The path from the city center to Garth Pier leads via Garth Road and is easy to find thanks to the good signage. In about 15 to 20 minutes, you will reach the coast and walk directly through the picturesque surroundings of Bangor back to your tender boat or berth.
