Car
Oban is well connected to central Scotland via the scenic A82 and A83/A816 trunk roads, a journey that takes approximately 2.5 hours from Glasgow. Several pay-and-display car parks are available in Oban, including at North Pier, Tweeddale Street, or Corran Halls. For long-term parkers, Lochavulin Car Park is recommended, which is also free for the first two hours, or Longsdale Road, both of which allow for longer parking durations. Train
Oban station is the terminus of the scenic West Highland Line and offers direct train connections from Glasgow Queen Street station. The journey time from Glasgow is approximately three hours and is an experience in itself. From the station, you can go directly to the ferry terminal, the starting point for many boat trips, which is only a short walk away.
Airplane & Transfer
The nearest international airports are Glasgow Airport (GLA) and Edinburgh Airport (EDI). From Glasgow Airport (GLA), you can easily reach Oban by direct bus in about 2 hours and 25 minutes or by car in around 1 hour and 49 minutes over a distance of about 143 kilometers. From Edinburgh Airport (EDI), the bus journey to Oban takes about 3 hours and 18 minutes, and the car journey around 2 hours and 21 minutes for the approximately 187 kilometers. Numerous private transfer services from both airports to Oban allow for a relaxed arrival. An overnight stay in Oban the day before your trip to the Treshnish Isles is particularly recommended to board well-rested and on time.
