Auto
Galway is well connected to the Irish road network. Coming from the east, for example from Dublin, the M6 motorway leads directly to Galway. From the south or north, the city can be reached via the M18 or N18 respectively. The Commercial Docks, the usual docking point for cruise ships, are centrally located in the city. Public parking is available in the city center, for example at Hynes Yard Car Park or Galway Cathedral Car Park, although long-term parking for the duration of a cruise should be checked separately.
Bahn
Galway Ceannt Station is located in the heart of the city, just a few minutes' walk from the Commercial Docks. It offers train connections to and from Dublin Heuston Station, operated by Irish Rail. The journey from Dublin to Galway usually takes about 2.5 hours. From the station, the cruise terminal is within easy walking distance or a short taxi transfer thanks to its central location.
Flugzeug
The nearest international airport is Shannon Airport (SNN), about 85 kilometers south of Galway. From there, bus connections to Galway take about 1.5 to 2 hours. Another option is Dublin Airport (DUB), Ireland's largest airport, around 200 kilometers to the east. It offers numerous direct flights from the DACH region. There are regular express bus connections from Dublin Airport to Galway, taking about 2.5 to 3 hours of travel time. Due to the longer journey, a pre-cruise overnight stay in Galway or near the airport is recommended for international flights.
Check-in & Einschiffung
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Accordingly, plan sufficient time for the journey to the port and bear in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the trip: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.
