Cruise ships dock directly at the central Terminalul de Pasageri Tulcea on the Faleza Dunării. Thanks to this prime location, travelers can step straight into the lively city center and comfortably reach the main attractions and cozy cafes within a few minutes' walk from the ship.
Tulcea is a central hub for Danube cruises and the gateway to the impressive Danube Delta. Thanks to its excellent connections to the national road network, the train station, and nearby airports, the port is easily accessible, with all major transport hubs concentrated directly within the port area.
Car
Travel to Tulcea is via well-developed highways. From Bucharest, the fastest route leads via the E60 (routes 2A and 22A) directly to Tulcea. The port itself has connections to the national road network, with the nearest highway being about 100 km away. For parking options, guarded parking spaces are available at "Port Tulcea Aval" at a price of around 8 euros per day. There are also private, guarded parking lots such as "Incinta Tulco 40" near the city center and the piers for Danube Delta boats. Another option is parking on Str. Portului, where free overnight parking as well as water and public toilets are offered.
Train
Tulcea Oraș train station is the relevant rail hub and is very conveniently located in the northeast of the city, directly on the banks of the Danube and in the immediate vicinity of the port and bus station. From here, daily train connections run to Bucharest and Constanța via Medgidia. From the train station, you can easily reach the cruise terminal on foot in about 15 minutes or by using one of the inexpensive taxis.
Airplane
The nearest international airports are Constanta (CND) and Bucharest Otopeni (OTP). Mihail Kogălniceanu Airport (CND) near Constanta is located about 94 kilometers from Tulcea, and the travel time by car is around 1 hour and 40 minutes. Transfers are available by bus (approx. 2-3 hours) or private taxi/shuttle. Henri Coandă International Airport (OTP) in Bucharest is the further option at approximately 298 kilometers away; transfers here take about 4 hours 30 minutes by bus or around 3 hours 40 minutes with a private transfer. Due to the longer journey, especially from the DACH region and for flights to Bucharest, an overnight stay in Tulcea the day before your cruise is recommended to start your Danube Delta adventure fully relaxed.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
