Returning to the ship
The Swedish archipelago island of Marstrand, a charming cruise port for smaller luxury ships and superyachts, is easily accessible thanks to good connections via the nearby mainland. Since the island of Marstrand itself is car-free, travel by vehicle takes you to the neighboring island of Koön, from where a short passenger ferry opens up the picturesque destination.
Car
From Göteborg, you can reach Koön, the island located just off the port of Marstrand, via the E6 towards Oslo. Take the exit at Kungälv onto Route 168 and follow it for approximately 25 kilometers directly to Marstrand-Koön. Various paid parking spaces are available there near the ferry terminal, with costs increasing the closer you are to the terminal. Please note that during the winter months (October 1 to April 30), many public parking spaces are free of charge. From Koön, a short passenger ferry will take you to Marstrand in just two to three minutes.
Airplane
The nearest airport is Göteborg Landvetter Airport (GOT), located about 70 kilometers from Marstrand/Koön. From there, you can reach the ferry to Marstrand by taxi or private transfer in about 1 hour and 15 minutes. Alternatively, airport buses such as Vy flygbussarna take you to Göteborg Central Station, where you can easily transfer to regional bus connections to Marstrand.
Train & Bus
Travelers from the DACH region can reach Göteborg Central Station (Göteborg C) comfortably by train. From there, continuing by bus is a great option: lines 302 and 312 run regularly from the Nils Ericson Terminal directly to the Marstrand färjeläge ferry terminal on Koön. The express bus on line 312 takes about 55 minutes, while line 302 gets you to your destination in approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes. A major advantage is that the bus ticket often already includes the crossing on the passenger ferry to Marstrand.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the journey: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.

The ferry connects Koön with the island of Marstrandsön in a short crossing of just a few minutes. It operates regularly around the clock and takes visitors directly into the heart of the charming port town as well as to the impressive Carlsten Fortress.
On Foot
Marstrandsön is largely car-free and can be explored perfectly on foot. From the ferry landing, you can reach the historic wooden houses, the waterfront promenade, and the picturesque hiking trails along the skerry coast within a few minutes' walk.
Bus and Taxi
Directly at the ferry terminal on the mainland side of Koön, there are taxi ranks and stops for regional buses such as the Marstrand Express. These allow for convenient onward travel to the surrounding area and also offer a direct connection to the nearby metropolis of Gothenburg.
Since the charming island of Marstrand is completely car-free, the best way to make the most of your limited time is through a combination of a stroll along the lively harbor promenade and an exploration of the history-steeped fortress.

The ferry connects the car-free island of Marstrandsön directly with the mainland and operates at very short intervals from the central quay. This allows you to reach the meeting point for your tender boats or the main pier on the opposite side in Koön safely within a few minutes.
Taxi and Bus Service
Directly at the ferry terminal on the mainland side in Koön, you will find the stops for the Marstrand Express as well as a taxi stand for individual trips. The connections are perfectly timed, allowing for a comfortable return journey to more distant berths or excursion destinations in the Bohuslän region.
On Foot
All sights on the island, such as Carlsten Fortress, are connected to the harbor via well-maintained paths and are easy to find thanks to clear signage. A walk through the historic alleys leads you directly back to the water, while you can also use the widely visible fortress as an ideal landmark for orientation.
