Da Nang is the radiant jewel on Vietnam's central coast and fascinates as a dynamic metropolis with a perfect blend of modern architecture and miles of sandy beaches. The city impresses with its pulsating energy and simultaneously offers relaxed moments by the deep blue South China Sea. Cultural highlights in the immediate vicinity include the majestic Marble Mountains with their mysterious cave temples, the iconic Dragon Bridge, and the impressive Lady Buddha statue on the Son Tra Peninsula. Cruise ships dock at Tien Sa Port, which is located about ten kilometers from the city center and, thanks to short transfer times of around 20 minutes, provides an ideal starting point for discovery tours to My Khe Beach or the nearby historic old town of Hoi An.
The Port of Da Nang, primarily accessed through the Tien Sa deep-water terminal, is located on the picturesque Son Tra Peninsula and serves as a central gateway to the cultural treasures of Central Vietnam. Thanks to its proximity to the international airport and well-developed infrastructure, travelers can comfortably reach the terminal from the city center within 30 minutes.
Airplane
Da Nang International Airport (DAD) is located only about 12 to 15 kilometers from the Tien Sa Terminal and is the most important arrival point for guests from the DACH region. As there are currently no direct long-haul connections from Germany, Austria, or Switzerland, the journey is a relaxed one via the hubs of Hanoi (HAN), Ho Chi Minh City (SGN), Bangkok (BKK), or Singapore (SIN). From the airport, air-conditioned taxis or pre-booked private transfers guarantee a swift onward journey to the ship in approximately 30 minutes.
Transfer & Shuttle
For the trip to the port, the official taxi companies Mai Linh and Vinasun, as well as the Grab ride-hailing service widely used in Southeast Asia, are the first choice, as they offer fixed rates and modern vehicles. The route to Tien Sa Port leads via well-maintained roads such as Yet Kieu directly to the port grounds, where private transfer providers are often allowed to drive right up to the ship. Since the terminal is located in an active industrial port, many guests also use the comfortable shuttle services provided by the cruise lines, which handle the logistics on-site and ensure a direct connection between the airport, train station, or city hotels and the gangway.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the long flight duration and the time difference, arriving at least one day before embarkation is highly recommended. The city of Da Nang and the nearby UNESCO World Heritage site of Hoi An offer first-class hotels and resorts, which often provide special packages including port transfers. A stay at a hotel on My Khe Beach allows for a stress-free start to the cruise while providing the opportunity to explore the famous Marble Mountains or the Dragon Bridge before departure.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that your travel documents will generally provide you with a fixed time slot for check-in, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
