Port information & tips for Phuket

Phuket, the "Pearl of the Andaman Sea," welcomes travelers as Thailand's largest island with a fascinating blend of exotic nature and rich culture. The arrival offers expansive views of jungle-covered hills as well as turquoise waters and, thanks to the warm flair, promises an unforgettable tropical adventure. Among the glorious highlights in the area are the majestic Big Buddha on Nakkerd Hill, the magnificent Wat Chalong Temple, and the picturesque Phuket Old Town with its colorful Sino-Portuguese merchant houses. Ships dock at Phuket Deep Sea Port in Ao Makham Bay, from where the city center, about ten kilometers away, and the dreamlike coastal sections are easily accessible by shuttle buses or taxis.

Phuket is a major hub for cruises in Southeast Asia and typically welcomes travelers at the Phuket Deep Sea Port in Ao Makham Bay or via tender boat off the coast of Patong. The island is excellently prepared for international guests and offers a modern infrastructure for a smooth start to your journey.

Airplane

Phuket International Airport (HKT) is located in the north of the island and is approximately 40 kilometers from the main terminal in Ao Makham. It is regularly served from Frankfurt, Munich, or Zurich with only one stopover via hubs such as Bangkok, Singapore, or Dubai, offering a flexible and comfortable arrival thanks to numerous daily connections.

Transfer & Taxi

From the airport, you can easily reach the port in about 60 to 90 minutes by taxi or a pre-booked private transfer via the well-developed Main Road 402. Additionally, many cruise lines provide their own shuttle buses on the day of arrival, which meet guests directly at the exit and accompany them to the respective berth without any detours.

Pre-Cruise Hotel

Due to the long flight duration from Europe and the time difference, arriving at least one day before embarkation is recommended. A stay in the nearby resorts of Cape Panwa or in the historic old town of Phuket Town allows for a relaxed start to the holiday and reduces the travel time to the Deep Sea Port on the day of departure to just a few minutes.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that your travel documents usually include a fixed time slot for check-in, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and consider that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The following also applies during the journey: For shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always observe the current announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
