Langkawi is a tropical island paradise off the northwest coast of Malaysia and inspires as a UNESCO Global Geopark with a unique blend of untouched nature and excellent infrastructure. Thanks to its lush rainforests, emerald green bays, and white sand beaches, the island offers an incomparable flair combined with numerous duty-free shopping opportunities. Highlights in the direct vicinity include the lively Pantai Cenang Beach as well as the fascinating Aquarium Underwater World Langkawi, while the famous Langkawi Sky Bridge guarantees breathtaking views. Cruise ships dock at the modern Langkawi Cruise Terminal in Porto Malai, from where the island's capital Kuah can be easily reached by taxi or shuttle after about 20 kilometers.
Langkawi is excellently developed as a Malaysian island paradise and welcomes cruise guests either at the modern Star Cruise Jetty in Porto Malai or directly in the lively city center of Kuah. Arrival from the DACH region is particularly comfortable thanks to the well-developed infrastructure and proximity to the international airport.
Airplane
Langkawi International Airport (LGK) is located in the west of the island and is the most important arrival point for international travelers. Since there are no direct flights from Germany, Austria, or Switzerland, the journey is convenient with a stopover in Kuala Lumpur (KUL) or Singapore (SIN). From there, you can reach the island in only about 60 flight minutes and arrive at the cruise terminal in Porto Malai in about 15 to 20 minutes or at the Kuah Jetty in around 30 minutes after landing.
Transfer & Taxi
After landing or from your hotel, air-conditioned taxis with fixed rates are available at the airport and terminals, which you can easily book at the official counter. In addition, many travelers use the Grab app for flexible rides at attractive prices or rent a car directly at the port for maximum freedom. The island's main roads are well-developed and lead directly to the respective docks thanks to clear signage.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the long flight time from Europe and the time difference, we recommend arriving at least one to two days before embarkation. The region around Pantai Cenang beach offers numerous resorts in the immediate vicinity of the Porto Malai Terminal and invites you to explore the duty-free island and attractions like the SkyBridge in advance. Many hotels organize private transfers upon request, so you can enjoy the start of your cruise completely relaxed.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the journey: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always observe the current announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
