Naha is the vibrant gateway to the island prefecture of Okinawa and impresses as a subtropical paradise in southern Japan. The city fascinatingly combines the rich history of the Ryukyu Kingdom with modern Japanese flair and welcomes visitors with a unique blend of emerald-green water and lively culture. Outstanding highlights include the majestic Shuri Castle, the idyllic Shikinaen Garden, and the bustling Kokusai-dori shopping street, which invites you to discover local delicacies. Cruise ships usually dock at the central Naha Cruise Terminal (Wakasa Berth), which is located in the immediate vicinity of the city center and, thanks to its first-class location, allows convenient access to the city center as well as the island's most important sights.
The port of Naha on Okinawa is excellently accessible thanks to its location in the heart of the prefecture's capital and its close proximity to the international airport. Check-in takes place either at the central Naha Cruise Terminal at Wakasa Pier or, for very large vessels, at Shinko Pier located a bit further north.
Airplane
Naha Airport (OKA) is located only about five to ten kilometers from the cruise terminals and is ideally served from the DACH region via the Japanese hubs Tokyo-Haneda (HND), Tokyo-Narita (NRT), or Osaka (KIX). The most comfortable way to continue to the ship is by taxi in approximately 15 to 20 minutes; additionally, many cruise lines offer organized shuttle transfers directly from the airport for a seamless arrival.
Transfer & Public Transport
Connections to the city center and the terminals are ensured by the modern Yui Rail monorail as well as a dense bus network. From the central Kencho-mae station, you can reach the Naha Cruise Terminal after a short taxi ride or a stroll; furthermore, the well-developed National Route 58 connects the port directly with the island's most important transport hubs and sights.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the long flight time from Europe and the time difference, it is recommended that guests arrive at least one day before embarkation. A stay in a hotel near the famous Kokusai-dori shopping street allows for a relaxed start to the holiday and offers an ideal base for reaching the terminals stress-free within a few minutes on the day of departure while enjoying the subtropical flair of Okinawa.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
