Ishigaki is the radiant heart of the Sakishima Islands and enchants visitors as a subtropical paradise in the far south of Japan. The island impresses with its relaxed flair, crystal-clear water, and a unique culture that combines Japanese traditions with Okinawan joy of life. Absolute highlights include the world-famous Kabira Bay with its emerald green lagoons, the traditional open-air museum Ishigaki Yaima Village, and the breathtaking view from the Tamatorizaki Observatory. Cruise ships dock at the modern Ishigaki Port Cruise Pier in the Shinko District, which is located only about two kilometers from the city center and offers a convenient connection to the lively Euglena Mall as well as the island's maritime center thanks to efficient shuttle buses.
Ishigaki is the gateway to the picturesque Sakishima Islands and welcomes cruise guests at the modern Ishigaki Cruise Terminal at the Painuhama deep-water berth or at the piers near the shore in the city center. Due to its sheltered island location in the East China Sea, the most comfortable way to arrive from the DACH region is by air with a connecting flight within Japan.
Airplane
New Ishigaki Airport (ISG), also known as Painushima Ishigaki Airport, is located about 15 kilometers northeast of the port. Travelers from Europe reach the island conveniently with a stopover in Tokyo (HND/NRT), Osaka (KIX), or Naha (OKA). Thanks to the well-developed domestic connections provided by Japan Airlines and ANA, as well as local low-cost carriers, onward travel to the island is easily possible.
Transfer & Taxi
From the airport, you can reach the cruise terminal directly via National Route 390 in about 25 to 30 minutes by car. Plenty of taxis are available in front of the arrival terminal, and regular buses operated by the Azuma Bus company run every 15 to 30 minutes between the airport and the central bus terminal in Ishigaki City, which is within walking distance of the city's port facilities.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the long flight time from Europe to Japan and the time difference, we recommend arriving at least two days before embarkation. Staying overnight in one of the hotels in Ishigaki City or in the resorts on the west coast allows for a relaxed start to the cruise and also offers the opportunity to visit sights such as the famous Kabira Bay or the traditional Ishigaki Yaima Village in advance.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port and take into account that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
