For guests from the DACH region, traveling to Hososhima is usually best done by plane. The nearest airport is Miyazaki Airport (KMI), located approximately 74 to 76 kilometers from the port. The travel time from the airport to the port is about 1 hour and 12 minutes to 1 hour and 14 minutes by car or taxi. Private transfer options directly from the airport to your destination in Japan are also available.

Train

A comfortable onward journey from Miyazaki Airport (KMI) is possible by train. The nearest relevant station is Hyuga-shi (日向市駅) on the JR Nippou Main Line. The train journey from Miyazaki Airport to Hyuga-shi takes about 1 hour and 8 minutes to 1 hour and 14 minutes. From Hyuga-shi Station, you can easily reach the port with a roughly 10-minute taxi ride.

Pre-Cruise Hotel & Transfer

Given the long journey from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, we recommend staying overnight in a pre-cruise hotel in the Miyazaki or Hyuga City region at least one day before embarkation to start your cruise relaxed. Hotels can be found in both Miyazaki and Hyuga City. Many cruise lines offer organized transfers from the airport to the ship, and taxis and local buses are also available for the journey between Hyuga City Station and the port.

Omi-jinja Shrine

The magnificent Omi-jinja Shrine is easily accessible by taxi or shuttle in just about ten to fifteen minutes and impresses with its spectacular location directly on the cliffs of the Hyuga Coast. This special place offers fascinating insights into Japanese mythology and architecture, while also providing a wide panoramic view over the Pacific, making it perfect for cultural discoveries in a soothing atmosphere. Thanks to the well-maintained paths and small stations for traditional lucky charms, the visit can be ideally combined with a relaxed walk by the sea. It is best to visit the shrine in the morning to experience the special spiritual tranquility before the main visiting times and return to the ship relaxed in the early afternoon.

Returning to the ship

The return journey to the port of Hososhima in Hyuga is very comfortable and safe thanks to the local organization, ensuring you are back on board on time.

Shuttle Bus

The city of Hyuga usually offers free shuttle buses that commute between the JR Hyuga-shi station at the east exit and the cruise terminal. These buses run at regular intervals and bring you comfortably directly back to the ship's security area.

Taxi

Taxis are available at the official stand directly in front of the JR Hyuga-shi station as well as at popular sights such as the Omi-jinja Shrine. The drivers are well acquainted with the berths in the port of Hososhima and will take you quickly and easily to the correct terminal entrance.

Orientation and walking path

Within the port area and at central points in Hyuga, clear signs and friendly local helpers point the way back to the pier. Due to the distance between the city center and the industrial port, the return journey is best completed by combining it with the shuttle or taxi for a relaxed finish.
