Riung is an untouched natural paradise on the north coast of the Indonesian island of Flores and impresses with its authentic seclusion. Absolute highlights include the island of Ontoloe with its impressive colonies of flying foxes, as well as the dreamlike snorkeling spots and white sandy beaches of Pulau Rutong. Since larger ships usually anchor off the coast, guests can easily reach Pelabuhan Riung by tender boat. This central landing point is located directly in the village, so that the charming alleys and local markets of Riung can be reached within a few minutes' walk and invite you to explore.
Riung on Flores is a picturesque fishing village and the ideal starting point for discovery tours in the enchanting 17 Islands Marine Park. Traveling from the DACH region requires a well-planned journey with several stages, but the untouched nature rewards every effort.
Airplane
Travel to Flores is usually via long-haul flight to Jakarta (CGK) or Denpasar/Bali (DPS). From there, convenient domestic flights are available to the airports on Flores. Komodo Airport (LBJ) in Labuan Bajo in the west is an important hub with daily connections and even direct flights from Kuala Lumpur and Singapore. Closer to Riung are the airports H. Hasan Aroeboesman (ENE) in Ende and Bajawa (BJW), which are served from Labuan Bajo or Kupang. Plan sufficient time for layovers.
Transfer & Further Travel on Flores
From the airports on Flores, further travel to Riung is necessary. Bajawa Airport (BJW) is the closest at about 70 kilometers, with a shared taxi completing the route in around 1.5 to 2 hours. Alternatively, you can reach Riung from Ende Airport (ENE), about 90 kilometers away, by bus in 3 to 4 hours or with a private transfer. Private drivers can be booked for the journey, providing a comfortable and efficient way to explore the mountainous roads of Flores.
