Kokas is an untouched gem in the Indonesian province of West Papua, transporting travelers into a world of fascinating history and spectacular natural landscapes. Kokas in West Papua is an extremely remote cruise port, primarily visited by expedition cruises, and requires arrival in several stages. A modern terminal infrastructure, such as those known from Europe, is not available here; embarkation usually takes place via local piers.
Airplane
Travel from the DACH region typically involves long-haul flights to international hubs in Indonesia such as Jakarta (CGK) or Makassar (UPG). From there, domestic flights are available to the nearest airport, Torea Airport (FKQ) in Fakfak, which is located directly in the Fakfak region. Flights to Fakfak are offered by regional airlines, often using smaller aircraft. Due to the long travel time and potential layovers, careful planning is essential.
Local Transfer & Shuttle
Kokas is approximately 50 kilometers from Torea Airport (FKQ) in Fakfak. For the transfer to the port, travelers can use local "Angkutan Kota" buses, which run from a dedicated terminal in Fakfak to Kokas. Alternatively, taxis or private rental cars are available, though the latter can be more expensive. Since the tourist infrastructure is very basic, it is advisable to organize transfers in advance through the cruise line or local providers to ensure a comfortable onward journey.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Given the complex and time-consuming journey involving multiple flight segments and onward transport to the remote port of Kokas, staying in a pre-cruise hotel is highly recommended. Check-in & Embarkation
