Port information & tips for Jacarta (Java)
Jakarta is the vibrant metropolis of Indonesia on the island of Java and a fascinating gateway to a world full of contrasts. The city impresses with its dynamic blend of colonial history and modern urbanity, where traditional markets harmoniously exist alongside glittering skyscrapers. Cultural highlights include the historic Fatahillah Square in the old town of Kota Tua, the imposing National Monument Monas, and the magnificent Istiqlal Mosque. Cruise ships dock at Tanjung Priok Port at the Jakarta International Cruise Terminal, located about 15 kilometers north of the center. Thanks to the direct connection to the transport network, the diverse sights and the lively hustle and bustle of the Indonesian capital can be easily and conveniently discovered from here.
The Jakarta cruise port, Tanjung Priok, is located in a heavily industrial area about 12 to 20 kilometers northeast of the city center and serves as Indonesia's largest and busiest seaport. The Nusantara Pura cruise terminal offers basic facilities for passengers, but due to the industrial environment and the distance to the city center, a planned arrival by vehicle is strictly necessary.
Airplane
Travel from the DACH region is primarily by plane to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK), Jakarta's main airport. This is located about 31 to 34 kilometers from the port of Tanjung Priok. Due to the long flight duration and the potential time difference, it is recommended to arrive at least one day before embarkation to start your cruise experience in a relaxed manner.
Transfer & Shuttle
From Soekarno-Hatta Airport (CGK) you can easily reach the port of Tanjung Priok by taxi or pre-booked private transfer in about 30 to 34 minutes. Buses operated by Damri also run regularly between the airport and the Tanjung Priok bus station with a travel time of around 30 minutes. Ride-hailing services like Grab and Gojek are available, but pickup points at the port may be limited, and the return trip to the port during peak hours can be challenging due to Jakarta's notorious traffic. It is recommended to use a private driver or a regular taxi for the return trip to the ship.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
For a stress-free start to your cruise, an overnight stay in a pre-cruise hotel is recommended due to the long flight time and the high volume of traffic in Jakarta. You will find various hotels near the port of Tanjung Priok, for example in the Sunter district. Many hotels also offer comfortable transfers to the port, allowing you to make the most of your embarkation day.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the cruise: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.

The Port of Tanjung Priok in the north of the metropolis is a modern hub and, thanks to a well-organized infrastructure, offers travelers a comfortable starting point for excursions into the heart of Java.
Taxi and Ride-Hailing
Reliable taxis from the Blue Bird Group as well as vehicles from ride-hailing services like Grab are available directly at the terminal and will take you comfortably to the old town of Kota Tua, which is about 10 kilometers away. The journey takes place in air-conditioned vehicles and also offers a direct connection to the major shopping malls and sights in the center.
TransJakarta and Commuter Trains
In the immediate vicinity of the port exit is the Tanjung Priok station, from which the modern buses of the TransJakarta system run efficiently through the city on their own lanes. At the same time, the train station there provides easy access to the Commuter Line trains, which quickly connect the port with the central Jakarta Kota station.
Bajays
For shorter distances in the surrounding area or an authentic transfer to the next bus station, the distinctive blue Bajays are available. These three-wheeled motorcycle taxis are ideal for the dense city traffic and, thanks to their compact size, allow for quick progress as well as a special local driving experience.
To optimally experience the fascinating variety of Jakarta during a short stay, we recommend a combination of the historical heritage near the harbor and the monumental landmarks in the modern center of the metropolis.
Kota Tua & Sunda Kelapa
The charming old town of Kota Tua delights with its magnificent buildings from the Dutch colonial era and is located in the immediate vicinity of the historical harbor of Sunda Kelapa, where traditional Pinisi wooden ships provide an impressive photo motif.
Monas & Merdeka Square
The iconic national monument Monas rises as a proud landmark in the heart of the city, and the surrounding Merdeka Square, thanks to its central location, is the perfect starting point for a visit to the impressive Istiqlal Mosque and the cathedral directly opposite.
Ancol Dreamland
This versatile leisure and recreation area directly on Jakarta Bay offers extensive beach promenades as well as well-kept parks and, thanks to its immediate proximity to the cruise port, is ideal for a relaxed day by the sea.
Kota Tua & Cafe Batavia
The historic district of Kota Tua can be reached from the port of Tanjung Priok in about thirty to forty minutes and offers fascinating insights into Jakarta's Dutch colonial history. The central Fatahillah Square is ideal for a relaxed walking tour and also houses the famous Cafe Batavia, which offers first-class dining and an excellent view of the bustling activity from a magnificent 19th-century building. Thanks to the well-preserved architecture and the variety of museums on site, you can experience the nostalgic charm of the city in a special atmosphere. Ideally, start your excursion directly in the morning to visit the buildings in peace, and plan a generous time window of about two hours for the return journey to the ship due to city traffic.
Returning to the Tanjung Priok cruise terminal can be planned in a relaxed manner thanks to the well-available means of transport, and only requires a generous time buffer for the lively city traffic.
Taxis and Rideshares
For a safe ride to the ship, it is best to use the reliable Blue Bird taxis, which you can find at official stands at major shopping centers such as Grand Indonesia or directly in front of well-known hotels and at Fatahillah Square in the old town. These will take you comfortably directly to the Nusantara Pura terminal and navigate you routinely through the extensive port area.
Cruise Line Shuttle Services
Many ships offer organized shuttle buses that run back to the port from central meeting points such as the Monas National Monument or large shopping malls like the Mangga Dua Mall. These buses are a very comfortable option and bring you directly through the port controls to the gangway of your ship without any detours.
Orientation and Safety at the Port
Since the Tanjung Priok port area is very large and industrial, the return journey to the ship should ideally always be motorized and lead directly to the passenger terminal. Have your cruise card ready for the security checks at the port gates so that the passage is quick and smooth.
