Port information & tips for Jacarta (Java)
Jakarta is the vibrant metropolis of Indonesia on the island of Java and a fascinating gateway to a world full of contrasts. The city impresses with its dynamic blend of colonial history and modern urbanity, where traditional markets harmoniously exist alongside glittering skyscrapers. Cultural highlights include the historic Fatahillah Square in the old town of Kota Tua, the imposing National Monument Monas, and the magnificent Istiqlal Mosque. Cruise ships dock at Tanjung Priok Port at the Jakarta International Cruise Terminal, located about 15 kilometers north of the center. Thanks to the direct connection to the transport network, the diverse sights and the lively hustle and bustle of the Indonesian capital can be easily and conveniently discovered from here.
The Jakarta cruise port, Tanjung Priok, is located in a heavily industrial area about 12 to 20 kilometers northeast of the city center and serves as Indonesia's largest and busiest seaport. The Nusantara Pura cruise terminal offers basic facilities for passengers, but due to the industrial environment and the distance to the city center, a planned arrival by vehicle is strictly necessary.
Airplane
Travel from the DACH region is primarily by plane to Soekarno-Hatta International Airport (CGK), Jakarta's main airport. This is located about 31 to 34 kilometers from the port of Tanjung Priok. Due to the long flight duration and the potential time difference, it is recommended to arrive at least one day before embarkation to start your cruise experience in a relaxed manner.
Transfer & Shuttle
From Soekarno-Hatta Airport (CGK) you can easily reach the port of Tanjung Priok by taxi or pre-booked private transfer in about 30 to 34 minutes. Buses operated by Damri also run regularly between the airport and the Tanjung Priok bus station with a travel time of around 30 minutes. Ride-hailing services like Grab and Gojek are available, but pickup points at the port may be limited, and the return trip to the port during peak hours can be challenging due to Jakarta's notorious traffic. It is recommended to use a private driver or a regular taxi for the return trip to the ship.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
For a stress-free start to your cruise, an overnight stay in a pre-cruise hotel is recommended due to the long flight time and the high volume of traffic in Jakarta. You will find various hotels near the port of Tanjung Priok, for example in the Sunter district. Many hotels also offer comfortable transfers to the port, allowing you to make the most of your embarkation day.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the cruise: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.
