Ambon, a major cruise port in Indonesia, is primarily accessible to guests from the DACH region as a fly-and-cruise destination. The Yos Sudarso port is conveniently located near the city center and is easily accessible thanks to its well-developed infrastructure. Given the long journey, an early arrival and an overnight stay before embarkation are recommended to ensure a relaxed start to your cruise adventure.

Airplane

Travel to Ambon is via Pattimura International Airport (AMQ), located approximately 38 kilometers west of Ambon city center. For travelers from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, flights usually require layovers in major Indonesian hubs such as Jakarta or Makassar, from where national airlines offer regular connections to Ambon. Plan your flight journey generously to avoid potential delays and ensure a restful arrival.

Airport Transfer

From Pattimura International Airport (AMQ), you can reach the port area and downtown Ambon quickly thanks to the Merah Putih Bridge. Taxis standing directly outside the terminal are a comfortable option. Additionally, private transfer services, often with English-speaking drivers, offer a stress-free journey to your accommodation or directly to the ship. Ride-hailing apps like Grab Car are also available at the airport, providing a convenient and cost-effective way to continue your journey.

Many accommodations, including the Swiss-Belhotel Ambon or the Amaris Hotel Ambon, are centrally located and thus conveniently close to the port. A pre-cruise hotel allows you to arrive after the long flight, acclimatize, and explore the charming capital of the Maluku province at your leisure before embarkation.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will typically receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.
