Returning to the ship

Alyui on Waigeo in Raja Ampat is a remote harbor primarily visited by expedition cruises and liveaboards. There is no classic cruise terminal here; arrival at the ship usually takes place via tender boat or local transfer boats.

Airplane

Travel from the DACH region typically takes place by plane to Domine Eduard Osok Airport (SOQ) in Sorong, West Papua, the gateway to Raja Ampat. International travelers usually fly via the Indonesian hubs of Jakarta (CGK) or Denpasar (DPS) onward to Sorong. Airlines such as Garuda Indonesia or Batik Air offer direct flights from these metropolises, with the flight from Jakarta to Sorong taking approximately 4.5 hours. It is recommended to choose flights arriving in Sorong in the morning to comfortably reach the connecting ferry to Waigeo.

Onward Journey & Ferry Crossing

From Sorong Airport (SOQ), you can reach the Sorong ferry port (Pelabuhan Rakyat Sorong) by taxi in about 10 to 20 minutes; the cost is approximately IDR 100,000. From there, public fast ferries, such as the Express Bahari, operate twice daily (usually at 9:00 AM and 2:00 PM) to Waisai on Waigeo Island. The crossing takes around two hours, and tickets are available directly at the harbor. Alternatively, private speedboat transfers offer a faster connection of about 1.5 hours. From Waisai, the further transfer to Alyui Bay in West Waigeo is usually arranged by the cruise provider or the accommodation using smaller boats.

Arrival Recommendation & Pre-Cruise Hotel

Due to the long international journey and the fixed departure times of the ferries from Sorong to Waigeo, an overnight stay in Sorong before embarkation is strongly advised. This provides an important time buffer for possible flight delays and allows for a relaxed start to your Raja Ampat adventure. Many expedition ship and liveaboard providers also organize the entire transfer from Sorong Airport to the ship, which considerably simplifies travel planning.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The following also applies during the voyage: For shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always observe the current announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times may change at short notice.
