River cruise ships dock directly at Sualkuchi Ghat, from where visitors can reach the heart of the village and its artistic workshops immediately thanks to the ideal location and can easily explore the sights on foot.
Sualkuchi, the charming "silk village" on the northern bank of the Brahmaputra in India, is primarily a port of call for river cruises and offers a unique cultural experience. Although it is not a classic ocean cruise port, traveling from the DACH region is convenient thanks to the good connections to Guwahati, the regional hub. Airplane
The nearest airport is Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (GAU) in Guwahati, approximately 30 to 45 kilometers from Sualkuchi. Direct flights from the DACH region to Guwahati are rare, which is why connecting flights via major Indian cities such as Delhi or Mumbai are usually used. After arriving at GAU, you can easily reach Sualkuchi by taxi or rideshare service in about 33 minutes to an hour. An overnight stay in Guwahati the day before is recommended for long-haul flights to ensure a relaxed start to your river cruise adventure.
Train
The most relevant railway station is Guwahati Main Railway Station (GHY), located around 30 to 35 kilometers from Sualkuchi. Guwahati is an important railway junction with good connections to other Indian metropolises. Another option is Kamakhya station, about 25 to 30 kilometers from Sualkuchi. Taxis and local buses are available from both stations to take you directly to Sualkuchi.
Car
Sualkuchi is accessible via well-developed roads, particularly via the NH27 national highway from Guwahati. The journey takes about 1 to 1.5 hours depending on traffic. For travelers arriving by rental car or private taxi, parking is available near the weaving workshops and public areas in the village. The road connection allows for a flexible arrival and exploration of the picturesque surroundings.
