Returning to the ship

Kolkata, also known as Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port, is India's only major river port and welcomes you with a unique blend of colonial charm and vibrant Bengali culture. Strategically located on the east bank of the Hooghly River, the port is easily accessible, although arriving at least one day before embarkation is recommended due to the long journey from the DACH region.

Airplane

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (CCU) is the nearest airport, located approximately 12 to 17 kilometers from Kolkata city center. The journey to the cruise terminal, which is about 22 kilometers from the airport, takes about 30 minutes to over an hour by taxi, depending on traffic. A convenient and fast option is the Kolkata Metro (Orange Line 6), which connects the airport directly to the city and enables a quick journey. In addition, air-conditioned buses operated by the West Bengal Transport Corporation (WBTC) run from the airport to central points such as Esplanade and Howrah.

Train

For arrival by train, Howrah Railway Station (HWH) and Sealdah Railway Station (SDAH) are the most important hubs in the Kolkata metropolitan area. Howrah Station, one of India's largest railway stations, is located on the west bank of the Hooghly River and is a central transfer point for long-distance trains. From there, you can easily reach the cruise terminal with a prepaid taxi. The route is approximately 16 kilometers long and can take between 16 minutes and an hour depending on traffic, with taxi costs starting at approximately 637 to 1353 INR.

Transfer & Pre-Cruise Hotel

Due to the long flight times from the DACH region, it is advisable to arrive in Kolkata at least one day before the start of your cruise. This allows you to recover from the journey and relax in the event of any flight delays. Many hotels in the city center or near the airport are suitable as pre-cruise hotels. From the airport, ride-sharing services such as Uber or Ola, which operate around the clock, are available for the transfer to the port in addition to taxis. For a particularly comfortable start to your cruise, you can also book private transfer services that offer a fixed price, meet & greet at the airport, and 24/7 support.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The following also applies during the trip: For shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.

It is best to visit the monument early in the morning to enjoy the morning freshness in the gardens, and plan your return trip to the ship about two hours before departure for relaxed time management.

Returning to the ship

The way back to the moorings at Kidderpore Dock or Netaji Subhash Dock is straightforward and safe thanks to the diverse transport options in Kolkata. Due to the lively traffic volume in the metropolis, plan for a generous time buffer so that you can reach your ship relaxed.

Yellow Taxis and Ride-Hailing Apps

You can find the iconic yellow taxis at central hubs like Park Street, New Market, or directly in front of major hotels like the Oberoi Grand. Additionally, apps like Uber or Ola offer a convenient and price-transparent way to return directly to the secured port gate, as the drivers are experienced in navigating the busy neighborhoods.

Cruise Shuttles and Transfers

Many cruise lines provide shuttle buses that depart from fixed meeting points such as the Indian Museum or the Maidan and take you directly to the terminal. Using these organized buses is particularly comfortable and ensures a punctual arrival directly at the pier thanks to the fixed schedules.

Orientation and Port Access

Since the Kidderpore port area is extensive and industrial, a vehicle is always recommended for the return journey instead of walking. Simply tell your driver the name of your ship and the terminal so that you can be driven comfortably through the guarded port entrances to the check-in area.
