Airplane

Arrival from the DACH region usually takes place via a long-haul flight to Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (CCU) in Kolkata, the nearest international airport. The airport is approximately 30 to 40 kilometers from Chandannagar, and the journey by taxi or a pre-booked transfer takes around 40 to 60 minutes, depending on traffic. For a relaxed start to your river cruise, especially after a long intercontinental flight, an overnight stay in a pre-cruise hotel in Kolkata is recommended. Taxis from the airport to Chandannagar cost around 1,000 to 2,900 Indian Rupees.

Train

Chandannagar Station (CGR) is an important hub for rail travelers and is well-connected to the regional network. From Kolkata, you can reach Chandannagar easily and frequently by local trains from Howrah Main Station. The train journey on the Howrah-Bardhaman main line takes about 45 to 55 minutes for the approximately 33 kilometers. From Chandannagar Station, you can then easily reach the city center and the riverfront promenade, the Chandannagar Strand, by taxi or auto-rickshaw.

Chandannagar is easily accessible thanks to good road connections. The city is located about 37 to 40 kilometers north of Kolkata and is directly connected via State Highway 6 (Grand Trunk Road) or Delhi Road. An alternative route is the NH19, which is slightly longer at around 54 kilometers but often less busy. Various paid parking options are available in Chandannagar itself, including limited spaces at the station or public parking lots near the Laxmiganj Market. Please note that parking on main roads may be restricted on major public holidays.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the trip: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
