Port information & tips for Mossel Bay

Mossel Bay is a sun-drenched jewel on South Africa's Garden Route and impresses with a mild climate and a picturesque coastal backdrop. The city combines historical charm with a relaxed holiday atmosphere and, thanks to its location on the Indian Ocean, offers fascinating insights into maritime history. Absolute highlights in the immediate vicinity of the port include the Bartholomeu Dias Museum Complex with the famous Post Office Tree and the striking Cape St. Blaize Lighthouse. Cruise ships use the port of Mossel Bay, with guests usually arriving at the central Quay 4 or via tender at the Jetty. From there, the lively city center is easily accessible on foot, so that explorations of the historical alleys and beaches can begin immediately.

The port of Mossel Bay in South Africa is a popular destination on the Garden Route and is traditionally reached from the DACH region via Fly & Cruise. Arriving at least one day prior to embarkation is recommended due to the long flight time.

Airplane

The nearest airport is George Airport (GRJ), located approximately 40 kilometers from Mossel Bay. Although there are no direct flights from DACH countries to George, you can reach it via stopovers at major international hubs such as Johannesburg (JNB) or Cape Town (CPT) with domestic connecting flights. Both Johannesburg and Cape Town are served directly from major European cities.

Transfer & Shuttle

From George Airport (GRJ), you can easily reach Mossel Bay by taxi or rental car. The drive takes about 40 to 50 minutes via the N2, a well-maintained national road. Many cruise lines also offer organized transfers from the airport or selected hotels to the cruise terminal, guaranteeing a comfortable onward journey.

Pre-Cruise Hotel

For a relaxed start to your cruise, we recommend staying overnight in Mossel Bay or the immediate vicinity, especially after a long-haul flight. The town offers a selection of hotels and guesthouses, which provide an ideal base for exploring the area before embarkation. From many accommodations, you can reach the port quickly and easily.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will generally receive a fixed check-in time slot with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
