The Port of Dakar is West Africa's most important gateway for cruise ships and welcomes its guests at the centrally located Terminal Mole 1 (Gare Maritime Internationale). Thanks to the immediate proximity to the Plateau city center as well as modern connections to the international airport, a smooth embarkation is guaranteed.
Airplane
The modern Blaise Diagne International Airport (DSS) is located approximately 55 kilometers east of Dakar and serves as the central arrival point for guests from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Arrival is convenient with just one stopover via European hubs such as Paris, Lisbon, or Brussels as well as via Casablanca, allowing you to reach your destination at Africa's West Cape flexibly and comfortably.
Transfer & Shuttle
From the airport, you can reach the harbor terminal directly in approximately 60 to 90 minutes via the well-developed A1 highway (Autoroute de l’Avenir). For a particularly relaxed arrival, most cruise lines offer organized shuttle transfers; additionally, licensed taxis and private transport services are available at the airport to bring you safely and directly to Mole 1.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the longer flight duration and the distance between the airport and the harbor, arriving the day before the cruise is recommended. An overnight stay in the first-class hotels in the Plateau district or in the lively Almadies quarter allows for a stress-free start to your vacation and also offers the opportunity to explore the historical Gorée Island or the city's colorful markets in advance.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that your travel documents usually include a fixed time slot for check-in, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the harbor and take into account that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as mooring and departure times may change at short notice.
