The cruise port of Banjul on Banjul Island, located at the mouth of the Gambia River, primarily serves as a port of call for ocean cruises and is not a classic departure port for guests from the DACH region. Nevertheless, traveling to the port via the nearby international airport is easily possible, although due to the long flight times from Europe, arriving the day before including a pre-cruise hotel stay is advisable in order to start your Gambia adventure relaxed. The port is directly accessible, but it should be noted that private taxis are not always allowed to drive directly into the port area.
Airplane
Banjul International Airport (BJL), also known as Yundum International Airport, is the nearest airport and is located about 15 to 20 kilometers southeast of the port of Banjul. From the DACH region, there are frequent seasonal direct flights, for example from Frankfurt with Condor, as well as numerous connections with a layover via other European hubs such as Brussels, Amsterdam, or Casablanca. Thanks to the manageable distance, the transfer to the port or a hotel near the coast is straightforward.
Local Transfers
From Banjul International Airport, you can easily reach your hotel or the port directly by taxi. Taxis are readily available at the airport, although fares should be negotiated before starting the journey as there are no meters. A taxi ride to the port costs an estimated 30 to 50 US dollars. Many hotels also offer their own shuttle services. At the port itself, official port shuttles often handle the transfer from the ship to the port exit, as private vehicles and taxis are not always permitted to enter the port grounds directly. There is no rail connection in Gambia.

Given the long flight from the DACH region, a stay at one of the comfortable hotels along the coast or in the Greater Banjul Area the day before your cruise is recommended.
