Mindelo on the island of São Vicente is the central cruise port of Cape Verde and welcomes travelers at Porto Grande, which is characterized by its sheltered location and immediate proximity to the charming city center. Due to its geographical location in the Atlantic, arrival from the DACH region typically takes place by plane and is usually complemented by short, efficient local transfers.
Airplane
Cesária Évora Airport (VXE) is located about ten kilometers southwest of the port and is regularly served by TAP Air Portugal via Lisbon, as well as by charter flights from various German airports during the peak season. The flight time from Central Europe, including a layover, is approximately eight to nine hours, with travelers benefiting from the minimal time difference and uncomplicated entry.
Transfer & Taxi
From the airport, you can reach the cruise terminal directly in about 15 to 20 minutes by taxi or the organized shuttle buses provided by the cruise lines. The road connection is well-developed and runs along the coast, allowing guests to gather their first impressions of the volcanic island landscapes and the bay of Porto Grande during the short journey.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the sometimes longer flight connections and the cultural diversity of Mindelo, arriving at least one day before embarkation is recommended. Many guests choose a city hotel near the waterfront promenade or at the city beach, Praia da Laginha, to experience the colonial architecture and the island's famous music scene at leisure and reach the ship relaxed the next morning.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
