About Phoenix Reisen
The German tour operator Phoenix Reisen was founded in 1973. In 1988 they started cruising the oceans with the charter of the ship Maxim Gorkiy. Starting as a pure ocean shipping company, Phoenix Reisen expanded its range in 1993 to include the popular river cruises. The four well-known ocean liners are now joined by more than 30 river ships as well as a few smaller ships for exceptional destinations. The shipping company is still in family hands and attaches great importance to a friendly and pleasant atmosphere aboard their ships. Language on board of all ships is German.
The MS Ivan Bunin and her sister ships were built in a larger series in the mid-80s at the Elbe shipyard in Boizenburg. This type of ship is one of the larger river boats. With a length of 129 meters and 5 decks, this ship can comfortably accommodate up to 210 passengers. The large sundeck and the all-round promenades invite you to relax and enjoy the view across the beautiful Russian river landscape. The ship is being refurbished on a regular basis and offers a good mid-range standard. In 2010, the last renovation with renovation took place.
Life on Board
As on all Phoenix ships, the atmosphere on board the MS Ivan Bunin is cosy and informal. The dress code on board is casual. At the traditional captain's dinner a more elegant wardrobe is expected, but evening wear is not needed here either. Regional events, live music and light entertainment on board provide a perfect setting for your river cruise. On-board languages are German and Russian, currencies are Euro and rubles. Visa and MasterCard are accepted on board.
All cabins on board are comfortably furnished outside cabins, where you can relax during your stay on board. Except for the lower deck (not opening portholes), the cabins have large windows that can also be opened. The equipment in all cabins consists of shower/WC, air conditioning/heating, TV, radio, mini fridge, safe, small daily newspaper and 220 V AC. The spacious deluxe cabins are equipped with double beds, which can be separated if desired (except in the suites). The suites also have a separate living room and a bath rather than a shower.
Food and Beverages
All Inclusive board will be offered on board the MS Ivan Bunin. In addition to the rich breakfast buffet and the delicious lunch and dinner with regional specialties of the Russian cuisine, you will also find a wide range of included drinks, which are offered between 08:00 - 24:00. The well experienced kitchen and service team will spoil you with all the amenities the kitchen has to offer. Afternoon coffee time, traditional captain's reception and the captain's dinner with festive menu complete the culinary offer on board.
Entertainment, Sports and Relaxation
During your cruise, regular dance nights with live music await you. A selection of books, board and card games is at your disposal. Regional events, such as folklore performances, language courses or lectures about the country and its people do not leave boredom on board. For relaxation, you will find a barber and a sauna on board or you can let yourself be pampered in the massage area (for a fee).
Through a variety of shore excursions, you have the opportunity to get to know the country and its people along the route. The excursion program is adapted to the length of stay of the ship and is accompanied by qualified tour guides. The excursions are usually in German language. The shore excursions can be booked directly on board or partly in advance online at the shipping company. Payment is on board. At some cruises a variety of shore excursions is already included.
With the MS Ivan Bunin you will experience a classic river cruise through the beauty of the Russian nature, with good, country-typical meals and a friendly and courteous ship crew. The ship is comfortable but does not offer much luxury.
