McCaig’s Tower

This impressive monument, built in the style of an ancient amphitheater, offers you the most spectacular panoramic view over the Bay of Oban, your cruise ship, and the vast island world of the Hebrides. The site also features a well-maintained garden and, thanks to its proximity to the town center, is ideally situated for combining the excursion with a visit to the traditional Oban Distillery or the first-class seafood stalls on the pier. Ideally, plan your ascent directly in the morning to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere before the larger groups of visitors arrive, and return relaxed to the harbor in the early afternoon for a stroll through the local boutiques.

Returning to the ship

Returning to the port of Oban is extremely relaxed and safe thanks to the compact size of the town. Since cruise ships usually lie at anchor here, the short way back leads conveniently to the centrally located tender piers at North Pier or South Pier.

Taxi

Central taxi ranks are located directly at Oban railway station on Station Road and near the ferry terminal. The short distances within the town allow for a quick ride back to the pier, and taxis can also be easily pre-booked by phone to destinations further away, such as Dunstaffnage Castle or the local beaches.

On Foot

The way back to the ship is very easy to find thanks to the prominent location of the harbor bay and the good signage in the town center. From the McCaig’s Tower viewpoint, you walk downhill to the waterfront promenade in about ten to fifteen minutes and reach the tender boat piers without any detours.

Local Buses

Buses from West Coast Motors stop at the central bus station right next to the railway station and provide a reliable connection from the surrounding area back into the heart of Oban. From the final stop, it is only a few meters' walk to the piers, ensuring you reach the port on time and stress-free.
