Motril is the sun-drenched gateway to the Spanish Costa Tropical and impresses with its idyllic location between the azure Mediterranean Sea and the peaks of the Sierra Nevada. The travel time to the terminal is approximately 75 minutes via the well-developed highway; additionally, the airports of Granada (GRX) and Almería (LEI), each approximately 80 to 110 kilometers away, offer flexible alternatives for an individual flight schedule and a comfortable onward journey by rental car or taxi.

The port is excellently connected to the Spanish long-distance road network via the A-7 and A-44 highways and can be reached directly from all directions. Within the port area, there are sufficient guarded parking spaces for long-term parkers, and the specific port access road GR-16 leads you quickly to the check-in area at Muelle de Levante without passing through the town.
Transfer & Pre-Cruise Hotel
As Motril does not have its own train station, rail travelers are best advised to arrive via the ICE hubs of Granada or Málaga and use the regular bus connections or private shuttle services to the port from there. For a particularly relaxed start, we recommend a pre-cruise overnight stay in the nearby city of Granada to visit the impressive Alhambra and reach the ship in just under an hour's travel time on embarkation day.

Most cruise lines offer comfortable shuttle buses that take you directly from the pier to the city center of Motril, about three kilometers away. This connection is the most convenient way for an individual stroll through the city and also takes you directly to the central squares.
Taxi
Official taxis await you directly at the terminal exit. These offer a quick ride to the city's sights, to the bus station for long-distance destinations like Granada, or to the picturesque beaches of Playa Granada in the immediate vicinity.
Local Bus Lines and Walking Distance
A short walk of around 15 minutes leads you to the charming suburb of El Varadero at the edge of the port. From there, local scheduled buses run regularly, connecting the port area cost-effectively with the center of Motril while providing an insight into local life.
To make the most of your stay in Motril, we recommend a combination of the extensive beaches of the Costa Tropical and a visit to the magnificent Moorish architecture in nearby Granada.
Alhambra in Granada
Thanks to its direct connection, the world-famous UNESCO World Heritage site of the Alhambra is quickly accessible and enchants visitors with its delicate Moorish palaces and the artfully designed Generalife gardens.
Playa de Poniente
Located close to the harbour, this beach impresses with its vast area and an inviting promenade, which is perfect for a relaxed stroll or an enjoyable break in the traditional beach restaurants by the Mediterranean Sea.
Santuario de Nuestra Señora de la Cabeza
Majestically perched on a hill, this pilgrimage church offers a spectacular panoramic view over the city to the coast; furthermore, a visit can be ideally combined with a stroll through the adjacent Parque de los Pueblos de América.
Playa Granada
The extensive Playa Granada is easily accessible from the port in less than ten minutes by taxi or shuttle bus and offers a wonderful combination of an expansive pebble-sand beach and sophisticated comfort. Thanks to the first-class infrastructure with excellent beach clubs such as "Oleaje", you can enjoy a stylish atmosphere here, including comfortable sun loungers and high-quality gastronomy right by the sea. It is best to visit this stretch of coast in the morning to experience the tranquility of the Costa Tropical to the fullest, and ideally plan your return to the ship about ninety minutes before departure.
Returning to the cruise port of Motril can be planned easily and safely thanks to the short distances and good connections to the city center and the beaches.
Shuttle Bus
The most convenient way back to the ship is via the shuttle bus, usually provided by the cruise line, which departs regularly from Plaza de la Aurora in the heart of the city. This service takes you directly to the port entrance and, thanks to the coordinated timing, ensures a punctual arrival before departure.
Taxi
Taxis are available at any time at central locations such as Plaza de las Palmeras or at the bus station and will take you directly to the terminal in a few minutes. The return journey is also easily organized from the beach promenades of Playa de Poniente and Playa de Granada, as the staff at the local cafés are happy to call a vehicle for the short distance to the pier.
On Foot
A walk from the nearby Playa de Poniente beach back to the ship is easily manageable thanks to the flat paths and the direct line of sight to the harbor. The route leads along the waterfront promenade and is very safe due to the clear signage towards Puerto and the presence of port personnel at the entrance area.
