Skjolden is located at the innermost end of the picturesque Lustrafjord and stands out as the emerald green gateway to the impressive Jotunheimen and Breheimen National Parks. The regional Sogndal Airport (SOG) is approximately 60 kilometers away and offers fast connections for travelers from the DACH region via the Oslo hub. From Sogndal, you can reach the port in about an hour's drive by rental car or taxi, while the larger Bergen International Airport (BGO) is reachable in approximately four to five hours via impressive mountain passes.
Car
Arrival by private vehicle is via the Norwegian Scenic Route RV55, one of the most spectacular mountain roads in Europe, or via the E16 through the famous Lærdal Tunnel. Parking is available directly in the center of Skjolden as well as in the immediate vicinity of the quay; additionally, local providers offer spaces for guests who wish to park their car safely during an expedition.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the remote location in the Fjordland, arriving the day before is highly recommended and can be ideally combined with an overnight stay in one of the historic local hotels. This allows you to enjoy a relaxed morning by the fjord and reach the terminal after a short walk, with time left for a visit to the nearby Urnes Stave Church or the Nigardsbreen glacier.

Bus and Taxi
Local buses from the company Skyss as well as private shuttle services stop directly at the port and connect the terminal with more distant destinations such as the Nigardsbreen Glacier or the Urnes Stave Church. Taxis are also available at the port and offer individual trips to the surrounding area.

As the oldest stave church in the world, it impresses with its artistic carvings and, thanks to its picturesque location, is perfect for a cultural stroll. The return journey to the port of Skjolden is particularly easy to plan at any time and remains relaxed thanks to the manageable size of the village.
On Foot
From the village center and the Fjordstova visitor center, you can enjoy a comfortable walk back to the ship in about 5 to 10 minutes via the flat, paved shore path. Orientation is easy, as the cruise pier is clearly visible from throughout the village and the path leads through the charming village center directly to the port gate.
Bus and Shuttle
Regional buses as well as local shuttle services stop at the central station near Fjordstova and the Skjolden Hotel. These will bring you back to the center on time from destinations such as the Nigardsbreen Glacier or the hiking trails at Sognefjellet, from where the ship is within easy reach.
Taxi and Transport Service
Taxis can be easily requested through the friendly staff at Fjordstova or at the reception of the Skjolden Hotel and are available for a comfortable return journey. Thanks to the short distances, you will reach the port within a few minutes and also enjoy a relaxed drive with views of the picturesque Lustrafjord.
