The cruise port of Porto Santo, located on the Portuguese island of the same name, is primarily accessible to guests from the DACH region via air and sea routes. Since the island itself is small, the distances from the airport or ferry pier to the cruise terminal are short and straightforward.

Airplane

Porto Santo Airport (PXO) is the first point of contact for air travelers and is located only about 3 kilometers from the port. Direct flight connections from Germany, Austria, or Switzerland are rare; travel usually involves a layover in Lisbon (LIS) or Funchal/Madeira (FNC). From there, regular connecting flights to Porto Santo are available, enabling a quick and comfortable journey. Taxis are available at the airport and will take you to the terminal in just a few minutes.

Ferry from Madeira

A popular alternative or addition to air travel is the ferry connection from the neighboring island of Madeira. The Porto Santo Line ferry operates several times daily from Funchal to Porto Santo. The crossing takes approximately 2 hours and 30 minutes and offers a picturesque view of the Atlantic. The ferry pier in Porto Santo is located in the same port area as the cruise terminal, so you only need a short walk or a taxi ride after disembarking. It is also possible to transport a vehicle on the ferry.

Transfer & Pre-Cruise Stay

Since traveling from the DACH region usually involves longer flight times and a transfer, a pre-cruise stay of at least one night on Porto Santo is recommended. This ensures a relaxed start to your cruise and provides the opportunity to explore the island beforehand. Many hotels offer shuttle services from the airport or ferry pier. From Porto Santo Airport (PXO) as well as from the ferry pier, you can easily reach the cruise terminal, located in the main town of Vila Baleira, by taxi in about 5 to 10 minutes.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that your travel documents usually include a fixed time slot for check-in, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually about one hour before the scheduled departure.

The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.
