From Cairns Airport, you can reach Port Douglas in a relaxed manner thanks to a wide range of shuttle services and private transfers. The drive along the scenic Captain Cook Highway, also known as the Barrier Reef Drive, takes about 60 to 90 minutes and offers breathtaking views of the coast and the rainforest. Booking your transfer early is recommended, especially during the high season, to guarantee a smooth onward journey.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the long journey from Europe, an overnight stay in one of the charming hotels or resorts in Cairns or directly in Port Douglas is highly recommended to start your cruise adventure refreshed and relaxed. Port Douglas offers a wide range of accommodation options, from luxurious resorts to cozy apartments, which will enrich your stay before embarkation. In addition, a pre-stay allows you to fully enjoy the unique atmosphere of the town and its proximity to the Great Barrier Reef and Daintree Rainforest.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that your travel documents will usually provide you with a fixed time slot for check-in, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
