Kristiansund is Norway's charming opera city and stretches picturesquely across four islands connected by bridges directly on the Atlantic. As a charming coastal city with a cruise port located right in its heart, Kristiansund offers excellent accessibility, ensuring a stress-free arrival. Most cruise ships dock directly at Storkaia or Devoldholmen, putting you right in the city center on the island of Kirkelandet.

Airplane

The nearest airport is Kristiansund Airport, Kvernberget (KSU), located just about 8 kilometers east of the city center. From there, convenient flight connections are available to major Norwegian cities such as Oslo, Bergen, and Trondheim. Taxis are available for the transfer to the port, taking you to the terminal in about 15-16 minutes. Alternatively, city buses (e.g., lines 801 and 802) run regularly every 20 to 30 minutes from the airport to the center, with a travel time of around 15-25 minutes.

Auto

Arriving by car to Kristiansund is comfortable and offers picturesque views thanks to good road connections. The city can be reached via the E39 highway as well as the Rv70. A special attraction nearby is the famous Atlantic Ocean Road (Rv 64), which is located only about 30 minutes' drive from the city center and has been toll-free since July 2020. Designated parking spaces for buses and tour operators are available directly at the cruise pier. For individual long-term parkers, using city parking garages or inquiring about local hotel offers is recommended.

Particularly after a long journey from the DACH region, an overnight stay in one of the centrally located hotels in Kristiansund is recommended to start your cruise feeling relaxed. Since the port is located directly in the city center, you can easily reach the ship on foot from many hotels. The Historic Sundbåten Ferry

The legendary Sundbåten ferry departs directly from the harbor basin in the immediate vicinity of the cruise pier, offering a charming way to easily explore the city, built on four islands, from the water. As the world's oldest continuously operating passenger ferry, it connects the city districts on a picturesque route and also provides a prime view of the colorful wooden houses and the traditional Klippfischmuseum. Thanks to its regular schedule, you can enjoy a relaxing round trip through the harbor and find lovely cafes at the various stops for a delightful break. Ideally, take advantage of this service right in the morning to experience the morning tranquility on the water, and return safely to the ship at least sixty minutes before departure.

Returning to the ship

The distances in the charming port city of Kristiansund are pleasantly short and, thanks to the central location of the piers, you can return to your ship relaxed at any time.

Sundbåten (Harbor Ferry)

The historic Sundbåten ferry connects the four districts and brings you reliably back to the central Piren pier. Since this hub is located directly next to the Storkaia cruise terminal, you can easily reach the check-in in just a few steps and also enjoy a short harbor cruise.

On Foot

From the Kongens Plass market square or the main shopping street, paths lead directly downhill towards the harbor basin. The striking quay edge is visible from almost all elevated points in the city and serves as an easy orientation guide for a relaxed walk back to the berth.

Taxi

Central taxi ranks are located at the Piren hub as well as in front of major hotels like the Quality Hotel Grand in the city center. The drivers are well acquainted with the berths at Storkaia or Devoldholmen and will bring you quickly and safely directly to the terminal entrance.
