Returning to the ship

Alofi is a unique cruise port in the South Pacific that requires special travel planning due to its remote location and the small size of the island of Niue. Cruise ships anchor in Alofi Bay, allowing guests to conveniently reach the Sir Robert Rex Wharf by tender boat.

Airplane

Travel to the Alofi cruise port is primarily by plane via Hanan International Airport (IUE), Niue's only airport. It is located only about 2.5 to 3.5 kilometers southeast of Alofi and is accessible via weekly flights from Air New Zealand from Auckland, New Zealand. Due to the long journey from the DACH region and the limited flight frequency, it is recommended to arrive at least one day before the planned embarkation to ensure a relaxed start.

Transfer & Local Transportation

From Hanan International Airport, you can reach Alofi quickly and comfortably; the journey takes only about 5 to 7 minutes. Many accommodations on Niue offer a free airport transfer, or alternatively, taxis are available at the airport. Since there is no public transport on Niue, renting a car, motorcycle, or bicycle is the best option for exploring the island flexibly. Numerous local rental car companies allow for pickup directly at the airport. Please note that a local driver's license from the police station is required to operate a vehicle.

Pre-Cruise Hotel

An overnight stay in one of the charming hotels or cottages in Alofi or the surrounding area before your cruise is highly recommended due to travel times and for acclimatization. This way, you can start your cruise adventure relaxed while having the opportunity to enjoy the unique atmosphere of Niue beforehand. Many hotels also offer parking for rental cars.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will generally receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the trip: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements as well as the postings on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
