Alghero, the enchanting "Coral City" on the northwest coast of Sardinia, impresses with its unique Catalan charm and a moving history. Its picturesque location on the azure Mediterranean Sea and the medieval architecture create an inviting atmosphere, which is perfectly complemented by the lively alleys of the historic old town. Cultural highlights include the magnificent Cattedrale di Santa Maria, the imposing Bastioni Marco Polo fortress walls, and the nearby Coral Riviera. Cruise ships usually dock at the central Banchina Dogana or the Molo Sanità, from where guests can reach the heart of the city directly. Thanks to this prime location, the center with its boutiques and cafes is only a few steps away from the ship.
Alghero on Sardinia offers a relaxed arrival for cruise guests and is easily accessible thanks to the nearby airport and good road connections. The port is compact and the berths for cruise ships are located close to the center, which makes orientation easy.
Airplane
Alghero-Fertilia Airport (AHO) is the nearest airport and is located only about 10 kilometers from the port. Thanks to the short distance, you can reach the port comfortably in about 15 to 20 minutes by taxi or with a pre-arranged shuttle service. There are bus connections from the airport directly to Alghero city center, from where the port is within walking distance or a short taxi transfer.
Car
Alghero is accessible via well-developed roads that are connected to the Sardinian main road network. The SS127bis leads directly into the city and to the port area. For long-term parkers, various parking options are available in Alghero, including some supervised parking lots near the harbor, which represent a convenient option for the duration of your cruise. It is recommended to reserve a parking space in advance, especially during the high season.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
For a relaxed arrival and to enjoy the beauty of Alghero before your cruise begins, an overnight stay in one of the city's charming hotels is recommended. Many accommodations are located in the old town or along the coast and are therefore only a short walk or a short taxi ride from the cruise port. This allows you a stress-free start to your vacation, especially after longer flights.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the journey: For shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always observe the current announcements and the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
