Bonifacio on Corsica welcomes its cruise guests in one of the most picturesque natural harbors in the Mediterranean. Ships usually anchor in the protected fjord, from where passengers are conveniently brought to the marina in the lower town by tender boats. The historic upper town sits majestically on the impressive limestone cliffs and can be reached from the marina on foot or with a charming tourist train. For a relaxed embarkation, especially after longer journeys from the DACH region, arriving a day in advance is recommended.

Airplane

Figari-Sud Corse Airport (FSC) is the nearest airport and is located only around 20 to 22 kilometers from Bonifacio. Numerous airlines offer direct flights or convenient connections from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland to Corsica, including to Figari. Alternatively, you can fly into Ajaccio (AJA) or Bastia (BIA) airports, which are however much further away and require longer transfer times.

Transfer & Shuttle

From Figari Airport (FSC), you can reach Bonifacio comfortably by taxi or private transfer in about 25 to 28 minutes. The cost for a taxi ride is around 48 € for up to four people. There are also bus connections that have a travel time of about 20 to 30 minutes, but often require a short taxi transfer to the bus station in Figari. Some private transfer providers are also available to ensure a smooth onward journey.

Auto & Parking

Bonifacio is well connected within Corsica via the T40 (from the direction of Ajaccio) and T10 (from the direction of Bastia) main roads. Several paid parking lots are available at the harbor and near the town (P1, P2, P3, P5). Especially in high season, arriving early is advisable as the parking spaces fill up quickly. A practical alternative is the Les Valli parking lot, about 1.5 kilometers outside the center, which offers a free shuttle bus to the marina during the high season (June to mid-September). Parking fees vary, but are around 20 € per day for parking lots near the center and about 5 to 10 € per day for parking lots on the outskirts. Payment is usually made conveniently by credit card at the exit terminals.

The historic Citadel of Bonifacio

The medieval Upper Town perched impressively on the striking white limestone cliffs and is easily accessible from the port via the small tourist train or a picturesque climb in about fifteen minutes. This cultural highlight captivates with its spectacular location and the famous Escalier du Roy d’Aragon, a staircase carved directly into the rock offering breathtaking views of the turquoise sea. The winding alleys of the Old Town are perfect for a relaxed stroll and also offer an excellent selection of cozy cafés and local craft shops for an enjoyable break. It is best to start your excursion immediately after arrival in the morning to admire the architecture in peace, and return to the port in good time to enjoy your ship's departure against the unique backdrop of the glowing cliffs.

Returning to the ship

The way back to the port of Bonifacio is very easy thanks to the short distances and also offers beautiful views of the famous chalk cliffs.

Petit Train (Tourist Train)

The small tourist train commutes regularly between the historic citadel in the upper town and the port area at the Marine. The stop in the upper town is located near parking lot P1 and takes you comfortably down to the piers at Quai Jérôme Comparetti in just a few minutes.

Taxi

Taxis can be found at central squares such as Place de l'Europe in the upper town or directly on the harbor promenade. For returning from more distant excursion destinations such as Piantarella beach, you can easily have a taxi called via the local beach restaurants or hotel receptions to ensure you reach the ship on time.

On Foot

From the city center and the citadel, the fortified paths of Montée Saint-Roch and Rastello lead directly down to the harbor basin. The route is excellently signposted and allows for safe orientation through the busy alleys until you reach your ship's berth or the tender boat pier.
