Returning to the ship

Swift Bay in Western Australia is a unique destination for expedition cruises in the stunning Kimberley region. As it is a remote natural area, travel to the ship is usually via regional airports and transfers organized by the cruise lines. A direct "cruise port" with the usual infrastructure found in larger cities does not exist here.

Airplane to regional hubs

Travel from the DACH region typically involves a long-haul flight to Australia, for example to Perth (PER) or Darwin (DRW). From there, convenient connecting flights are available to the regional gateway airports of the Kimberley region, particularly Broome (BME) or Kununurra (KNX). Thanks to regular domestic flights, you can comfortably reach the vicinity of your adventure's starting point. Broome is located about 2,200 kilometers north of Perth, and Kununurra is situated around 800 kilometers east of Broome.

Transfers by the cruise line

Due to the remoteness of Swift Bay, transfers from the regional airport or the respective embarkation point (often Broome or Darwin) to the expedition ship are organized exclusively and conveniently by the respective cruise line. There are no public transportation options leading directly to Swift Bay or the remote landing sites, which is not a problem thanks to the comprehensive support provided by the cruise operators.

Pre-cruise stay in gateway cities

For a relaxed start to your expedition cruise, a pre-stay of at least one night in one of the gateway cities like Broome or Darwin is recommended after the long intercontinental flight. Numerous hotels there offer comfortable overnight accommodations, allowing you to begin your journey into the fascinating Kimberley region well-rested and without time pressure.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that your travel documents will usually include a fixed time slot for check-in, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.
