Returning to the ship

Admiralty Bay on King George Island, a fascinating and biologically diverse location in Antarctica, is not directly accessible by traditional means of transport such as cars or trains. Instead, the journey for guests from the DACH region typically begins with a flight to a South American port city, from where the actual sea voyage starts with an expedition ship. Ushuaia in Argentina is considered the most important starting point for Antarctic cruises. Arriving in good time and an overnight stay in advance are strongly recommended to start the unique adventure in a relaxed manner.

Airplane

To travel to Admiralty Bay, travelers from the DACH region first fly to one of the major hubs in South America, usually Buenos Aires (EZE), and from there continue to Ushuaia Malvinas Argentinas International Airport (USH). Flight connections from Frankfurt am Main (FRA), Munich (MUC), or Düsseldorf (DUS) to Ushuaia usually include at least one stopover and can involve a travel time of over 20 hours. Prices for round-trip flights often start at around 1,200 to 1,900 euros, depending on the departure point and time of booking.

Transfer & Shuttle

Ushuaia Airport (USH) is located only about 4 kilometers south of the city center and the cruise terminal, which allows for a quick and convenient transfer. Taxis are available directly at the airport, and the journey to the center or the port takes only about 15 to 30 minutes. Alternatively, private transfer services can be booked in advance, offering a comfortable door-to-door service to the cruise port and avoiding waiting times. Many cruise lines also organize their own shuttle services for their guests.

Pre-Cruise Hotel

Due to the long journey and possible flight delays, an overnight stay in Ushuaia at least one day before the scheduled embarkation is strongly recommended. This way, you can start your Antarctic expedition stress-free and explore the southernmost city in the world at your leisure. Numerous hotels in Ushuaia are located in the immediate vicinity of the port or are just a few minutes' walk away, such as the Hotel Albatros, which is directly opposite the port, or the Hotel Alto Andino. Many accommodations also offer a shuttle service to the terminal or are ideally located for a relaxed exploration of the city before departure.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that your travel documents usually include a fixed time slot for check-in, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The following also applies during the trip: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and the notices on board, as berthing and departure times can change at short notice.
