Port Stanley in the Falkland Islands serves as a central hub for expedition cruises to Antarctica and is accessible to travelers from the DACH region via Mount Pleasant international airport. Depending on the size of the ship, embarkation takes place at the FIPASS terminal or by tender boat directly at the central pier in the heart of the charming capital.
Airplane
Mount Pleasant Airport (MPN) is the central arrival point and is located approximately 56 kilometers from the capital. It is served via Santiago de Chile or Punta Arenas as well as with flights from Great Britain, opening up various routes to the South Atlantic for travelers from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Thanks to these international connections, the port is easily accessible for long-haul guests.
Transfer & Shuttle
From Mount Pleasant Airport, you can reach the port comfortably in about 60 minutes via the island's only paved cross-country road. Cruise line shuttle buses, perfectly synchronized with flight arrivals, as well as private transfer services that can be reserved in advance, will take you directly to the terminal or to your accommodation in Stanley. In addition, taxis are available for an individual and flexible journey.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the long journey and specific flight schedules, we recommend staying in Stanley for a few days before the start of the cruise. Established houses such as the Malvina House Hotel provide a relaxed start and offer the opportunity to get to know the British-influenced atmosphere and the unique local wildlife at your leisure. Many accommodations also assist with organizing local shuttles to the ship.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that your travel documents will usually provide you with a fixed time slot for check-in, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is generally scheduled for about one hour before the planned departure.
The following also applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the latest announcements and the notices on board, as berthing and departure times can change at short notice.
