Returning to the ship

Moreton Island is one of Australia's most pristine destinations and is mostly visited as part of cruises departing from the Brisbane International Cruise Terminal (BICT) in Pinkenba. Since the island itself is a pure tender port without fixed terminal infrastructure for large cruise ships, the journey for international guests begins on the mainland, which is ideally accessible thanks to its proximity to the airport and excellent highway connections.

Airplane

Brisbane Airport (BNE) is the most important gateway for travelers from the DACH region and is located only about 15 minutes by car from the cruise terminal. Thanks to first-class connections via international hubs such as Singapore, Dubai, or Doha, you can comfortably reach the metropolis of Queensland. For the short transfer to the terminal, it is best to use a taxi or one of the numerous rideshare services available directly outside the arrival halls.

Car & Parking

The journey to the terminal is via the Gateway Motorway (M1) and the exit towards Pinkenba, from where the route to the Brisbane International Cruise Terminal at Luggage Point is well signposted. On-site, Wilson Parking offers various parking categories for long-term parkers, with online reservation in advance ensuring a smooth process and a guaranteed parking space directly at the check-in area.

Pre-Cruise Hotel

Due to the long journey from Europe and the significant time difference, arrival at least two days before embarkation in Brisbane is highly recommended. Many hotels in the nearby district of Hamilton or directly in the city center offer special services for cruise guests. Additionally, a stay beforehand allows for a relaxed exploration of the South Bank and the Botanical Gardens before the ship sets sail for Moreton Bay.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the trip: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.

Useful tips

Tangalooma Wrecks

The famous Tangalooma Wrecks are located just a short, approximately twenty-minute beach walk north of the tender boat pier and offer a spectacular natural experience in turquoise waters. These fifteen intentionally sunken shipwrecks are home to a fascinating variety of colorful fish and corals and, thanks to the shallow water depth, are ideal for snorkeling or exploration by kayak. The adjacent infrastructure of the Tangalooma Island Resort also allows for a comfortable stay with access to refreshments and shaded spots under palm trees. It is best to visit the wrecks in the morning to experience the clarity of the water in ideal lighting conditions and to be ready for the return trip to the ship in a relaxed manner by early afternoon.

Returning to the ship

Returning to the ship on Moreton Island is very straightforward and relaxed thanks to the central location of the pier at Tangalooma Island Resort. Since the island is almost car-free, you can reach the port area safely via the resort's internal paths or directly along the beach.

Resort Transfer and 4WD Tours

Guests participating in organized 4WD tours into the island's interior will be dropped off directly at Tangalooma Island Resort at the end of their excursion. From there, the path to the jetty is short and easy to find thanks to clear signage within the complex and the helpfulness of the staff.

On Foot Along the Beach

Should you spend the day at the famous Tangalooma Wrecks, a beautiful walk along the shore leads back to the resort pier in about 20 minutes. The path is uncomplicated thanks to the flat sandy coastline and provides constant orientation by the water, ensuring you arrive at the meeting point on time.

Tender Boats at the Jetty

The actual return journey to the cruise ship is made via tender boats, which depart regularly from the large wooden jetty at Tangalooma Resort. Plan a sufficient time buffer for this so that you can comfortably reach the last trip and take advantage of the crew's service during boarding at your leisure.
