Returning to the ship

The Banggai Islands in Indonesia are a remote archipelago in Central Sulawesi, mostly visited as part of expeditions or island-hopping tours. A classic cruise port does not exist here; arrival typically takes place via the city of Luwuk on Sulawesi, from where the islands are accessible by boat.

Airplane

For travelers from the DACH region, the journey to the Banggai Islands first leads by plane via international hubs such as Jakarta (CGK) or Bali (DPS) to Makassar (UPG) in South Sulawesi. From there, a domestic flight takes you to Syukuran Aminuddin Amir Airport (LUW) in Luwuk, the gateway to the Banggai Islands. The flight from Makassar to Luwuk takes approximately 1 hour and 10 to 30 minutes. Airlines such as Batik Air and Wings Air offer regular connections to Luwuk.

Transfer & Ferry to the Islands

After arriving at Luwuk Airport (LUW), located about 11 kilometers from Luwuk city center, you can easily reach the port by taxi in about 15 to 20 minutes. From the "Pelabuhan Rakyat" (public harbor) in Luwuk, regular ferries and speedboats run to the various islands of the Banggai Archipelago. A ferry connection to Peleng Island (Leme Leme), for example, takes 2 to 3 hours and operates daily at 2:00 PM. Faster speedboats take you to the islands in less time, reaching Banggai Island in about 45 minutes.

Pre-Cruise Hotel

Due to the long international flights and the subsequent ferry crossing, an overnight stay in Luwuk is recommended to start your adventure relaxed. Hotels such as the Swiss-Belinn or Hotel Santika Luwuk offer comfortable options to recover before continuing your journey. This allows for stress-free scheduling and the opportunity to coordinate local transport and ferry times on-site.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the shipping company and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The following also applies during the journey: For shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and the notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.
