Port information & tips for Ancona
Ancona is the proud gateway to the Italian Adriatic and, as the capital of the Marche region, impresses with a fascinating blend of history and maritime charm. The city nestles like an amphitheater against the slopes of Monte Conero and, thanks to its location between the port and the hills, offers spectacular views of the deep blue sea. Cultural highlights include the majestic Cathedral of San Ciriaco, the ancient Arch of Trajan directly on the harbor front, and the impressive Mole Vanvitelliana. Cruise ships usually dock at Banchina Nazario Sauro or Molo Santa Maria, allowing guests to conveniently reach the historic center and the lively shopping streets on foot in just a few minutes.
Ancona, an important port on Italy's Adriatic coast, serves as both a major ferry hub and a popular port of call for cruise ships. The cruise port is centrally located, so some of the city's most important historic sights are within easy walking distance.
Car
Ancona is excellently connected to the Italian road network thanks to the A14 motorway (Autostrada Adriatica) and is therefore easily accessible from the DACH region. Travelers from the north take the "Ancona Nord" exit and follow the signs towards "Porto Car-ferries" or "Hafen Ancona". Coming from the south, the "Ancona Sud" exit is recommended, from which you follow the signs to "Ancona Centro / Porto". For parking, guarded long-term parking lots such as the "Parcheggio della Mole" are available. In addition, cruise lines like MSC Cruises offer a "Park & Cruise" service directly at the port, which includes options ranging from self-parking to shuttle services depending on the terminal. Alternatively, the guarded "Rosas Car Service" parking lot is located only about 10 minutes from the port, directly at the Ancona Nord motorway exit.
Train
Ancona Central Station (Ancona Centrale) is the central arrival point for rail travelers and is only about a 15-minute walk from the cruise terminal. For a particularly convenient transfer, bus line 12 is available, connecting the main station directly with the check-in terminal at the Nuova Stazione Marittima/Ancona Ferries Terminal. Taxis also offer a quick alternative, with a travel time of only about two minutes, depending on traffic.
Airplane
The nearest airport is Ancona-Falconara Airport (AOI), also known as Raffaello Sanzio Airport. It is located approximately 18 to 20 kilometers from the port. For the transfer to the port, travelers can use a taxi, which covers the distance in about 20 to 30 minutes. Private transfer services such as Transfeero also offer direct connections from the airport to the port, including flight monitoring. Alternatively, it is possible to take the train from the nearby Castelferretti station to Ancona Central Station and from there take bus line 12 or a taxi to the terminal.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will generally receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as berthing and departure times can change at short notice.
