Airplane
Arrival from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland is most efficient via Athens International Airport (ATH), which is served directly by all major hubs. From there, a short domestic flight takes you to Syros National Airport (JSY), located only about 3.5 kilometers from the port, allowing for a quick onward journey to the terminal by taxi.
Ferry & Transfer
The most important connection to the island is by sea from the Athenian ports of Piraeus or Rafina, from where modern high-speed ferries operated by SeaJets and Blue Star Ferries reach the island in about two to four hours. Since the ferries dock directly in the city center of Ermoupoli, the transfer to the cruise terminal is straightforward and can be completed directly on foot or with a short taxi ride.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Arriving a day in advance is highly recommended due to ferry schedules and the beauty of Syros, with accommodations near Miaouli Square or in the Vaporia district providing the ideal starting point. This allows you to enjoy a relaxed start to your vacation and explore the impressive architecture and local gastronomy of the island's capital at your leisure before embarkation.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will generally receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan accordingly and allow sufficient time for the journey to the port, keeping in mind that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is usually about one hour before the scheduled departure.
The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to current announcements and notices on board, as docking and departure times may change at short notice.
