Returning to the ship

Maizuru, located on the picturesque coastline of the Japanese prefecture of Kyoto, welcomes cruise guests at the modern Umitobira Cruise Terminal at the International Wharf (Pier No. 2). Due to its location, arriving here requires transfers, but it is comfortable thanks to the good infrastructure.

Airplane

The nearest international airport is Kansai International Airport (KIX), located approximately 150 kilometers by road and around 192 kilometers by rail from Maizuru. Travel time is about 2.5 to 3 hours by car or transfer, and around 3 hours and 43 minutes by train, including transfers. Alternatively, the closer Osaka Itami Airport (ITM) is available for domestic flights, from which buses reach Nishimaizuru in about 1 hour and 37 minutes.

Bahn

The most relevant train station for cruise guests is Nishi-Maizuru Station on the JR Maizuru Line. From Kyoto Main Station, Nishi-Maizuru Station can be easily reached in about 90 minutes by express train. From Nishi-Maizuru Station, you can reach the terminal in about 10 minutes by taxi. Additionally, the city or the cruise lines often offer shuttle buses running between the terminal and Nishi-Maizuru Station.

Transfer & Vorab-Hotel

Due to the long-haul flights from the DACH region, an overnight stay in a pre-cruise hotel, for example in Kyoto or Osaka, is highly recommended to start your cruise relaxed. For a comfortable and direct transfer from Kansai International Airport (KIX) to the Port of Maizuru, private transfer services are available, taking about 2 to 3 hours of travel time and thus ensuring a stress-free journey. Taxis are often available directly at the cruise terminal, and shuttle services provided by the city or cruise line can also be used.

Check-in & Einschiffung

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.
